Our Story

High Grade Metal Polishers Ltd. was founded in 2006 in East London, born from a vision to elevate the art of metal polishing to unprecedented heights. Our journey began with a challenge from a world-renowned sculptor who sought to achieve a superior mirror finish on his stainless steel sculptures. This quest for perfection catalysed the creation of High Grade Metal Polishers, and since then, we have been dedicated to setting new standards in the metal polishing industry.

Our founder, Andrew Hedges, was working as a polishing technician at a metal finishing company in Enfield when he was tasked with polishing a sculpture on-site at Benson Sedgwick Engineering. At that time, AB Fine Art, led by Managing Director Jerry Hughes, was managing the sculpture project. Recognising Andrew’s exceptional skills and potential, Jerry encouraged him to start his own company to push the boundaries of metal polishing.

With this encouragement, Andrew approached Barry Goillau, the manager at Benson Sedgwick, and John Benson, the owner, with a proposal to rent a small area in their facilities. They agreed, and with one other employee, Andrew established High Grade Metal Polishers. Their goal was clear: to produce high-end finishes that were missing in the industry, particularly a refined mirror finish. Through dedication and the innovative use of hand tools, they succeeded in creating a “super mirror finish” that could be applied to sculptures and other forms within the metal fabrication industry.

By 2010, our company had outgrown its initial space and expanded to a larger, more equipped facility within Benson Works. Spanning over 7000 square metres, this new location is equipped with overhead cranes capable of lifting up to 10 tonnes, enabling us to handle larger projects with greater efficiency and precision.
